One Armed Robbery: Low Rent Edition!
A downloadable game
One Armed Robbery is a 2021 Solitaire game designed to be played on public transit, and thus can be played without a table (for the most part) while holding all the components in the player's own hands. The game was originally intended to be played with a unique deck of 13 cards, but this new version reworks the rules slightly so that it can be played using specific cards from an ordinary Poker deck! So if you have a deck of playing cards laying around, you will be able to play this game! Wow!
I do actually consider this game to be my magnum opus as a game designer--I particularly like playing it at work, since it's a good way to reduce anxiety during busy hours. Hopefully it helps you too!

Few things that are unclear to me about eliminating: Is the card that we use for eliminating also eliminated? And if so, are we free to choose which one gets eliminated first? Or is it added to the hand? Where in the hand would it go? If I eliminate a card of the same rank, does it count as a picked pocket?
I also made a hack to add more cards and make it longer and more chaotic :) 10s that give 3 points and can eliminate any card other than face cards. They also behave as 3s and 5s. Jokers. They cannot be reserved. Jokers steal any 5s, and 10s currently in hand. If they steal two cards, they gain a point. As long as there are two Jokers in hand, they are the ones picking pockets. If two Jokers are next to each other, they steal a point from you and shuffle the deck (they go into the deck). They can be eliminated by As, 5s, 10s, and faces. If a face eliminates them, they have a point deducted. If a Joker ends up next to a Face, both cards go back into the deck. You steal one point from the Jokers. Jokers return to the deck randomly, somewhere in the middle. With 11 points, they win the game.
I am thinking about doing this with a full Tarock deck. Those actually have half the suits cards. Red cards only have 1, 2, 3, 4, black cards only 5, 6, 7, and 8. Just have to cut down on the landlords, since that would be 16 cards.
Hello! The card used for eliminated is NOT also eliminating, only the card that was already in play. You cannot eliminate a card of the same rank, only cards of a lower Rank (with Aces obviously being counted as alternatively low or high cards--they can't eliminate each other, though!)
Your hack sounds interesting! I'll have to give it a shot at some point. The reason this game only uses a few cards out of the deck is that I'd originally envisioned it as a game with all unique cards (as opposed to playing cards) and I was nervous about printing costs. Obviously though, there's no reason to hold onto that for a game that DOES use playing cards, so by all means!
Really cool game, pretty easy to pick up !
I just have a question about the reserve: the card in reserve has to be used upon drawing a 3, is that the only way to it back ?
Ah, no--you can play the card whenever you want if you're holding it. Excuse me, when I have a minute, I'll clarify that in the rules.
this is a phenomenal (and tricky!) solitaire game. i was honestly surprised at how much depth and strategizing there is for only thirteen cards, and once you get used to how it works its really addictive! im glad you made this version, because learning how it works and how fun it is makes me really want to print off a dedicated deck :^)
Wow! Thank you so much!
