Cardboard Chatbots
CardBoard ChatBots is a series of, I guess, single player roleplaying games where you hold a conversation with an artificial "intelligence" that is controlled by dice rolls, coin tosses, or some similar system. I intended it as kind of a parody of the modern "AI" boom, which seems to grow ever more horrifying each day, and in ways even the most cynical of science fiction authors failed to predict. These "bots" I built do not rely on generative models or LLMs, they are EXTREMELY stupid and require the player basically roleplay along in order to maintain the illusion of intelligence at all--even so, I would say they're barely less idiotic than chatgpt or its ilk--it hallucinates information about as frequently!
All of these games can be played with no computer, just using the instructions. However, I've set up some simple chat interfaces in Javascript, so you can play them digitally as well, if you want. I've also included the print ready files for a physical book containing all these games--you can print it out if you want, if that seems like the thing to do.
Hopefully the AI bubble bursts soon! It's a real shitty time out there, I tell you what.
